Say Hello to the HTC Touch HD

via Boy Genius Report by Zach Epstein on 9/10/08

After yesterday’s somewhat disappointing HTC Opal news it looks like HTC fans can do a complete 180 and get pumped. This thing might look like a BlackBerry Thunder but thanks to TouchFLO 3D we can be pretty sure the Touch HD will offer a much better touch interface. Very little is known about this sexy little devil at this point but here’s what we can tell you:

  • 480 x 800 pixel WVGA touchscreen display (!)
  • Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
  • TouchFLO 3D UI band-aid
  • 3G (you better hit that tri-band radio, HTC!)
  • Qualcomm 7201A processor @ 528MHz
  • 512MB ROM / 256MB RAM (+32MB on processor)

All that plus a heaping dose of badass have us pretty excited. In fact, we’ve almost completely forgotten about the Opal. Our hope is that someone at HTC wised up, canned the Opal and this is what they coughed up instead.

HTC Opal Leaks, The Sequel to the HTC Touch

via Gizmodo by Mark Wilson on 9/9/08

We’ve already seen phones like the HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro, but according to some legit-looking internal documentation, the HTC Opal is the official sequel to the original HTC Touch. Word has it that the Opal will ship with the 3D TouchFLO interface we’ve seen in the latest HTC products (which makes sense), but unfortunately, the spec sheet dated from July shows that the Opal still lacks 3G and features the same 200MHz processor as its predecessor.

HTC’s Android-driven Dream revealed in glorious spy photos

via Engadget Mobile by Joshua Topolsky on 8/30/08

Sure, we’ve seen some blurry videos and a few stolen glimpses when Andy Rubin demonstrated this beast, but now we’ve gotten our hands on a slew of pictures showing off a very real T-Mobile-branded Dream in all its Android-running glory. Not only does this confirm the design spied in those FCC docs as well as show off that nearly-done version of Android, but it seems to confirm the fact that this will be headed to T-Mobile, and sooner rather than later judging from the looks of the above device. Needless to say, our inner-geeks are completely geeking out right now. Hit the gallery below for a handful of other views of the phone. Google Android Prototype In the Wild

androidlive.JPG

Here’s the first gorgeous shot of an Google Android prototype in the wild. It looks HTC-ish in build, similar to the grainy versions we’ve seen in the official videos and the renderings in the SDK emulator. Our source, a Giz reader, had some feedback to add to the prototype, which he used for a day: Even in early form, it’s light and fast, much faster than the desktop emulator at times. And as a longtime programmer, he thinks it’s a lot more put together than Window Mobile 5 on the back side of things. It’s a prototype, so things will obviously change, but these are all great signs. I just pray that hardware by other makers is a lot more adventurous. In my mind, those HTC designs remind me a little too much of WM and will for a long time.
