Roll over, Rover. A new breed of games is building deep emotional bonds that rival the best puppy love. [more] – By David Kushner
As you all
know, i just got my new Nintendo DS Lite two day ago. To my surprise, when i
went to register it at nintendo.com, they don’t have a section for it!!! That’s
what i get for importing stuff from Japan months before they are introduced in
the US market. My question is: How does my warranty stand? Will i have to ship
the dam, cute, totally amazing lil bugger all the way to Tokyo if i need
Remember that i got the Ice Blue.
to the incredibly awesome awesome-ness of Noby, friend/Panic’s man in
Japan, today I was extremely lucky to receive in the mail a brand new
Nintendo DS Lite, fresh from Japan. Wow. (Thanks, Noby. Thoby.)
on March 2nd in Japan to surprising ’round-the-block lines, the
Nintendo DS Lite is Nintendo’s fresh revision of its quirky but
extremely loveable little-handheld-that-couldn’t-but-somehow-did — the
touch-screen "third pillar" of innovation that’s really quickly
becoming more of a foundation than a support for Nintendo.
I’ll quit with the words. Here are some first look technoporn/macrotastic pictures of this new system:
number of French consumer sites are reporting new comments from George
Fornay, president of Sony Computer Entertainment France and vice
president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, regarding the pricing
of the PlayStation 3 in Europe.
The comments were made on French
radio station Europe 1, and indicated that the PlayStation 3 will be
available for “around €500 [$613], in the range of €499 to 599 [$612 to
– Here is another pos out there about the possible pricing for the PS3. I just can not belive that Sony would be stupid like that to actually charge $700+ about the PS3. I know that they will say it’s not just a video game system, but rather a entertainment system. I THINK NOT!!! The bulk of the consumer base for the PS3 are parents bying for there kids. And i can assure you that that parent does not have $700 to spend on a video game system, and that is the bottom line. No matter how much sony says other wize, they will see it as a video game system. I am definitally getting a Nintendo Revolution…
Various Internet sites have reported that George Fornay, VP
for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, quoted a price of €499 to €599 Euros for
the PS3 during an interview with radio Europe 1. This translates to approximately
$613 and $736 US. Wow. That’s a little more than I think gamers and analysts
expected. Sony has been saying for months that the PS3 would have a hefty price
tag, but many anticipated a price closer to $399 US (see this Gamespot
article from June 2005).
Sony has yet to announce an official price and these numbers
may be an attempt to test consumer reaction. Engadget
also speculates that Sony might adopt a lower price for the US market, starting
the PS3 at $499. Regardless of the final price, it’s clear that Sony will be
asking us to pony up some serious cash for the PS3.
Will the average game consumer buy? Only time will tell and I’m
sure industry analysts will debate the point to death. But I’ll give you my 2
cents worth. At $499 average gamers and families will likely purchase Sony’s
new system. Microsoft’s Xbox 360 retails
for $399 and $299 for the Xbox 360 Core system. I can see people spending
another $100 for Sony’s "newer" system. At $600 or 700, I’m not so
sure. You can buy/build a decent computer for that price. Sony can argue all
they want that the PS3 is a "home entertainment system", and they’re
probably right, but parents will still see this as a video game. Sure, many hard
core Playstation fans can and will spend their own money on the PS3, but I’m
not sure average electronics consumers will pay en masse.
So I got Metroid Prime: Hunters for the NintendoDS just over a week ago and I must say that I hate it. It is the worse disappointment for the DS to date. I cannot believe that Nintendo would ever put out a game like that… truly disappointing
- The controls – I hurts to have to use the stylus to aim. Literally; I have to use my left hand to move around and shoot with my left index finger. You have the choice to switch the controls so you can AIM with the 4 buttons on the right but it sucks and you won’t be able to play that way.
- There is no depth perception in the game. That is what makes my eyes literally hurt after more than 10 minutes play time.
- The controls are just horrible, horrible. And I have not even played online yet with it.
